This morning we were up and packed our belongings away. We had a whistle stop meeting with the Mayor of Sveti Durd where he thanked us once again for the donation of the fire engine, along with the training and all of our efforts, soon after this we were off to visit the Croatian Fire Service Association and the main full time fire station in the capitol, Zagreb. The route took about 40 minutes and eventually we arrived at Zagreb Central Fire Station. This was much better equipped than anything available in the rural communities and the guys here were justifiably proud of what they had. We met the station commander who took us on a tour of their facilities and introduced us to several of their staff. The visit was followed by a flying visit to the Croatian Fire Service Association office for a look at their facilities and then we took the opportunity to go for a photograph at the main square in Zagreb.
We thought we had seen every possible fire station in our time but no, we were invited to yet another station for lunch. We actually felt a little guilty as we had no time other than to arrive, eat and leave. A couple of photos were taken here too and before long we were on our way North towards Austria to complete a totally different project.
All in all, a very full itinerary but extremely rewarding work. The local people of Sveti Durd are very proud of the new appliance and we are looking forward to seeing images of it at incidents in the future. if anyone wished to follow it's progress, please log on to www.dvd.hr
